Where To Get the Best Ice Cream in Brighton

With winter and the festive season fast approaching, it’s easy to get bundled up with the drastic fashion and food changes that the colder weather brings! However, for those little pockets of sunshine that we, as Brits, are subjected to, it’s always good to have an arsenal of delicious ice cream at your disposal for when the cravings come and the supermarket stuff just doesn’t cut it. As Brighton is so strongly rooted as a seaside town, it comes as no surprise that it is home to some of the best ice cream in the country; some might argue that it even beats out London in terms of its variety, volume and creativity, (but more on that later). I scream you scream, let’s be honest, we all scream for ice cream, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to recommend the following places.

In a rush? Need the TL;DR version?

BOHO GELATO

First on our list is Boho Gelato, with its delectable artisanal offerings that have locals and tourists alike salivating at the thought. This smooth and velvety creation follows the method behind traditional Italian gelato by utilising higher storing temperatures; using less butterfat, and containing up to half as much air as the typical ice cream; this contributes to giving the finished product such a dense (and undeniably delicious) consistency. However, the similarities to the real Florentine deal do end there as, for owner Seb, focusing on delivering unique and intriguing flavours is of great importance.

This allows kitchen creativity to thrive and, as a result, has helped the company to amass a backlist of over 500 gelatos that range all the way from Battenberg to Bourbon. If their interesting take on ice cream intrigues you, head down to one of their locations in Brighton

CLOUD 9

Secondarily, Cloud 9, a dessert parlour which, as the name suggests, has the ability to send you into a state far beyond earthly bounds with its indulgent cakes, ice cream and milkshakes. Paul and Hannah, the husband-and-wife team behind the display case, are passionate about bringing the best natural ingredients to their sugary selection and maintaining the highest quality in everything they produce. With their extensive range of desserts, they are a sweet lover’s paradise, but not necessarily a nightmare for your wallet, as some may think (all their products are made in small batches and are very reasonably priced with scoops starting at £2.20). Some of our favourite ice cream-centric dishes include the make-your-own sundae; customisable milkshakes, or just simply in a crunchy waffle cone laden with scrumptious toppings, but regardless of your order, you’ll be sure to leave satisfied! If you feel like trying them out, pop on down during their 11am-5pm opening hours.

GELATO GUSTO

And last but definitely not least, Gelato Gusto, yet another wildly creative dessert parlour that has our mouths watering at the sight of the menu. They offer lots of nostalgic flavours made in their North Lane location using local milk and fresh ingredients. However, fear not, dairy-free fans, as they not only cater to you but are very good at it, with most of their sorbets being suitable for vegans and a generous offering of dairy-free gelato so delicious that it has earned them numerous awards. The team is constantly developing new and exciting gelatos but also has a strong focus on diversifying their range of sorbets; as a result, they have up to ten to choose between; these include mojito, Guinness and even pear & parmesan!
